Set in a remote coconut farm in Sorsogon, Philippines, the hotel’s architecture was conceived using an efficient assembly of slab, column, beam, roof and screen, and constructed using locally sourced materials — coconut timbers, local stone, layered grass (nipa) roofing and concrete.  The hotel’s plan, where each building contributes to frame the landscape and pool, is set by the desire to protect a grid of coconut trees that had been previously established at the site.  The design implements the spatial hierarchy of public and private spaces traditionally found in a Filipino home.  The living spaces are completely open and oriented to the garden while the bedrooms are enclosed and set on the sides of the main house or lifted above, contained by screens in the guest pavilions.

The non-complex, anti-over detailing strategy implemented for this rural construction is key to the realization of the project.
